Description

‘Honeycomb Yellow’ is the best yellow butterfly bush on the market. In our gardens here in central Georgia it has out-performed every other yellow variety we’ve tried. Its yellow flowers are larger and more sweetly perfumed, and it continues to bloom much later in the season than other selections. The elongated flower clusters are unique in that the clusters occur in a pom pom like pattern along the length of the inflorescence. The foliage is an attractive silvery-green. The butterflies will thank you for planting this one!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 5 to 12 feet tall and 4 to 8 feet wide (depending on whether or not plants are cut back in late winter), the Honeycomb Butterfly Bush is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge in flowering shrub borders or centerpiece or background in perennial gardens. A natural choice for butterfly and hummingbird gardens, yellow theme gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedges; 10 feet apart or more for space between plants

Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Butterfly Bush is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Growing Preferences

‘Honeycomb Yellow’ Butterfly Bush is exceptionally easy to grow and isn’t too picky about soil type, provided the soil is well-drained and of average fertility. It prefers full to mostly sun however we’ve found that in zones 8 and 9 it likes some afternoon shade or filtered sun. At least 6 hours of direct sun per day is suggested for best flowering. As with so many other plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can cause problems with the roots. Can be cut back to 12 to 18 inches above the ground in late winter or very early spring. Can also be deadheaded and pruned throughout the season for shaping purposes.

Had reservations about ordering online, most nurseries online are pathetic, the plants you receive are very substandard. Not Wilson Bros. these plants I have been ordering from them are outstanding. I have quit shopping at local nurseries. Their plants are not nearly the quality of Wilson’s. Super fast delivery, the plants do not even look like they have been shipped, lots of new growth, I put them in the ground and they just keep going. I am honestly amazed. I haven’t seen this color of bloom. The plant was in good condition and it was a while before I was able to plant. It withstood several lights frosts without any effects on leaves.
