Description
A dwarf Aborvitae that maintains a globe shape with little or no trimming, at only 3 feet tall and wide ‘Mr. Bowling Ball’ is ideal for use as in home foundation plantings and landscape borders as an accent, no-maintenance hedge, or to accentuate entryways in pots or the ground. His attractive, soft and feathery foliage holds its rich blue-green color throughout the year providing a beautiful contrast with other types of shrubs, trees and flowers nearby. A extremely cold hardy selection that withstands temperature to -40F!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 30 to 36 inches tall and wide in a globe shape, Mr. Bowling Ball Arborvitae is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or centerpiece in containers or in groupings or as a straight or staggered row in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. Use two to accentuate an entryway. Also makes a nice low maintenance hedge. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, and formal gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 24 to 30 inches apart for solid hedges; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Arborvitae are very easy to grow and care for. They are adaptable to many soil types including red clay and like full sun to plight shade. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil. They don’t like an overly dry site. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Maintenance is minimal with very little if any pruning ever required.
